Andreea Dincă participated in the MUST training session on 11-12 of March 2019 at UCLouvain, Belgium. The session was organized by Professor Sylviane Granger and Professor Marie-Aude Lefer, coordinators of MUST and members of the Centre for English Corpus Linguistics (CECL).
The Multilingual Student Translation (MUST) project is a new international project which aims to collect a large multilingual student translation corpus, with rich, standardized metadata that combines insights from both Learner Corpus Research (LCR) and Corpus-Based Translation Studies (CBTS). The MUST corpus will be searchable via a web-based interface, called Hypal4MUST, a tailor-made version of the Hybrid Parallel Text Aligner (Hypal) developed by Adam Obrusnik from Masaryk University (Czech Republic). The West university of Timisoara is a MUST partner via ROGER activities.
The aim of the training session was to instruct its participants on how to use the Hypal4MUST interface. During the data collection stage, Andreea Dinca will assist the teachers and the students at UVT in using Hypal4MUST. She will also take care of all the aspects of MUST, acting as a mini project manager at UVT.
Impressions:
During the workshop the organizers clearly presented all the features of Hypal4MUST. In the second part of the meeting, the participants got the chance to work with the interface during a practical session. The CECL staff were permanently available to answer questions and assist the participants. Andreea also informed the members of CECL about the new research interests at the Faculty of Letters and in ROGER (corpus linguistics, language-related digital methods etc.). Potential collaborations or research stays at the Belgian university were discussed.
