ROGER

Andreea Dinca attended the 13th International Conference “Linguistic Resources and Tools for Processing the Romanian Language” held in Iasi, Romania, between 22 and 23 November 2018. This conference was a good opportunity to meet the Romanian scholars from the field of Informatics who develop text processing tools for the Romanian Language.

More information about the conference here.

Impressions:

  • Quality talks regarding the fields of Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Linguistics and Computational Linguistics, Romanian Diacritics Restoration, Improving Writing skills in Romanian Language, Digital Humanities. Alongside the main conference sessions, four lectures on diverse topics enriched the conference programme.

Attending this conference proved to be very useful for ROGER in several ways:

  • There were identified text processing tools for the Romanian language that can be provided by the Faculty of Computer Science Iasi and RACAI (Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence “Mihai Drăgănescu”, Romanian Academy).
  • I participated in the second ReTeRom workshop, a complex project which aims at creating a bimodal Romanian Corpus and technologies for Natural Language Processing. The Teprolin platform is part of this project: it is a platform designed to help POS Tagging and morpho-syntactic analysis. This platform could be extremely useful in processing the Romanian texts from the ROGER corpus.
  • The professors from the Faculty of Computer Science and the researchers who work at the Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence “Mihai Draganescu”, Romanian Academy  were interested in the ROGER project and expressed their willingness to collaborate with the members of the project.
