I finished my doctoral studies in 2011, with a degree in English Philology, specialisation corpus linguistics, at the University of Freiburg in Germany. Before graduation, I got a positon as a researcher at the Department of Applied Linguistics of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, where I worked for 8 years. Since June 2017, I have been conducting research at the West University of Timisoara, Romania, my home country, coordinating the ROGER project for a period of five years. I am happy to contribute, in this way, to the development of research in corpus linguistics and academic writing in the Romanian context.

Master’s Student (Theory and Practice of Translation)
As I was passionate about foreign languages since high school, I have studied Languages and Literatures: English-Romanian at the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology. I am currently an MA student at the same faculty and I am specialising in the Theory and practice of translation (English), because I also wanted to develop these translation skills. I have always enjoyed trying a little bit of everything and getting involved in numerous voluntary activities, taking part in contests or various projects. ROGER represents an opportunity through which I will improve my knowledge in the field of applied linguistics and it will allow me to implement the pieces of information from the two main topics that I have studied. I will learn a lot of new things in this project and I aim to contribute greatly to it.

I am a student in the second year at the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology of the West University of Timișoara, and I am passionate about linguistics and literary studies. I find it extremely interesting to study them using the new digital instruments which I discovered at ROGER. Digital linguistics and the approach of literature through its perspective are, as I pleasantly found out in this wonderful team, domains of a bright future which we enjoy by presently building it.

If I had to describe myself in one sentence… I would probably say: “I like to get things moving”.
Being a programmer offered me all the instruments I needed to transpose my ideas into an immediate reality. Whether I implemented my own ideas or I finalized on-demand software applications, everything helped me to broaden my horizons.
The teams I had to coordinate (on large or smaller scale projects) improved my leading skills and allowed me to complete my professional profile.
I am also an associate professor at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. I finalized my PhD thesis in securing distributed multimedia applications.

A language passionate, wisdom seeker, animal lover …and currently an MA student at the West University of Timisoara, specialising in the Theory and Practice of Translation. Prior to the ROGER project, I have gained work experience as a content writer, proofreader, occasionally a translator, a customer support agent, a teacher of English and French, while also trying to remain a keen reader of literature and an amateur photographer.

Currently an MA student at Faculty of Letters, History and Theology, West University of Timișoara, specialising in Literature and culture: Romanian contexts, European contexts, my major interests are academic research in fields such as Romanian Literature, Stylistics and Poetics, Linguistics and Semantics, but also foreign languages and travelling. The experience that I have gained at different national and international colloquia, through writing several scientific papers that aimed to stylistically and micro-stylistically analyze different interesting structures and occurrences, led me to what is known as ROGER research project. In this project, the use of digital tools would facilitate the materialization of some quantitative studies in domains such as Literature, Stylistics or Poetic Lexicography.

I am currently a BA student at the West University of Timișoara. I study Applied Modern Languages with a focus on translation and interpreting. My interest in research led me to this project and I am very enthusiastic about putting my skills into practice but also improving them in the course of my activity as a research assistant. My learning style consists of integrating knowledge from different fields, so the interdisciplinary approach of this project suits me perfectly.

Bachelor in Applied Modern Languages (English-Russian) 2019. Currently, I am a Master student in the Human Resources Management UVT program. During my bachelor studies, I had the chance to be an Erasmus student, for one year (2017/2018), at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, where I attended the “Introduction to Corpus Linguistics” course, thus I came into contact with discipline-specific methods (for example: Sketch Engine Software).
Therefore, for the bachelor thesis, I chose the topic “The need for a specialized translator’s touch. Translating restaurant menus from Romanian to English.” The basis of the work consists of a corpus of menus and it was done by conducting field research. Thus, I became familiar with the method of manual compilation of corpus data, and at the same time, I stepped into the applied linguistics field.
For these reasons, I consider the opportunity of being a part of the ROGER team as an opportunity to pursue much knowledge in the linguistic field that arouses my interest. I am very glad to be part of the team and I intend to contribute substantially to its work.

I am a language enthusiast who has followed her passion by studying English and German at the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology of the West University of Timișoara. I am currently at the beginning of my linguistic journey as a third year BA student. I have always enjoyed discovering the mechanisms that bring a language to life, without realizing it at first in my childhood. Now that I am studying them consciously in an academic environment, I am able to view everyday aspects of life differently, as everything we do is connected through language.
This project is a great opportunity for learning and I am glad to be part of a team that shares my interests. I am looking forward to being a small puzzle piece of such a complex field.
